| The Sybilline Oracles |
One of the most important Oracles of the ancient world was based in the Roman Empire. She was called the Sibyl. She lived in the cave around the 6 century BC near Naples. Before she gave her prophecies, gods of Apollo use to take over her body. “The god possessed the Sibyl. She made utterances in the altered state. Sibyl’s prophecies where collected in series of scrolls and housed in the temple of Jupiter. They were considered the most important books of the ancient Rome. Among the Sibyl’s prophecies, it was a distant apocalypse. She predicted that the world would last for 9 periods of 8 hundred years each. The 10th generation would begin approximately 2000 AD and it would be the last.
“These things in the 10th generation shall come to pass.
The earth shall be shaken by a great earthquake that throws many cities into the sea.
There shall be war. Fire shall come flashing forth from the heavens, and many cities burn.
Black ashes shall fill the great sky. Then know the anger of the Gods.”
